Let’s take a trip back to a time immemorial. 1995. The scene: a quiet study lounge in the Tercero Housing Complex, nestled among the sprawling farmland and lush woods of Central California. Illuminated under fluorescent lights, several young men and women are gathered in a tight circle in the center of the room. As night begins to fall, the setting sun breaks through the clouds, casting a warm shaft of light into the chamber and enveloping the ring of figures. In that moment, the silence was broken. Once the light faded into naught but a soft glow, a name emerged from the melodies and harmonies. And thus, The Lounge Lizards were born.

                29 years later, the Lizards are still taking the stage and showing off the style and sass that makes us so unique among our UC Davis peers. As the oldest a cappella group on campus, we are often seen at on-campus and local Davis events, where we love to perform some of our favorite tunes, from MJ to Beyoncé. The best time to hear us though is at our annual concert in March, No Instruments Attached, where we assemble groups from across the state for a night of wonderful music. Like the original group in 1995, each member of 2024’s Lounge Lizards brings more than just their voices to the group. Off the stage, we can be found getting boba together after rehearsals, having freestyle rap battles, and sharing homemade chicken nuggets on weekends. We weave that friendship into every song we perform, and are always looking forward to sharing that with a new audience.
